The smartphone market is abuzz with excitement. In the last few days, there were a lot of teasers about the upcoming OnePlus Nord.
According to Android Central, OnePlus is going to announce their first device in that lineup, the “OnePlus Nord,” on July 10th. The phone is also dubbed the OnePlus 8 Lite or OnePlus Z.
In his forum post published earlier this week, OnePlus CEO Pete Lau confirmed the rumours and declares that OnePlus plans to introduce this line initially in India and Europe before bringing it to North America.
OnePlus has been teasing the customers with a teal colour option that will be debuting with the phone, and the awaited launch event is slated for July 10 in India.

The Rumored Camera
Since its commencement back in December 2013, OnePlus has furnished all its phones with one single selfie camera. Though people did see a prototype last year suggesting a dual hole-punch design on the OnePlus 8 Pro to accommodate two selfie cameras. However, that phone debuted in April with a simple single selfie camera.
But now it seems that the company is willing to up its game with its newest model the Nord. Apart from the rumoured dual selfie cameras, a recent rumour has suggested that the OnePlus Nord could come with quad rear cameras.
It will feature a triple camera setup, including a 64-megapixel primary sensor along with 16-megapixel and 2-megapixel sensor.
The leaked photos indicate that the dual selfie camera setup on the OnePlus Nord will include a 32-megapixel primary camera and an 8-megapixel secondary shooter. Furthermore, Android Central reported, citing a person familiar with the matter, that the camera setup is said to be available as part of a hole-punch design at the top-left corner of the screen, just like the dual selfie cameras present on the recently launched Realme X3 series.
Expected Design and Display and Connectivity
Though one can expect the OnePlus Nord to look a lot like the OnePlus 8 lineup that just debuted, kit eeps in mind that design and display are two possible areas for cutting corners to keep costs down. And OnePlus might do that.
Since there is no proof, one can only assume its looks.
The OnePlus Nord or OnePlus Z, if one would prefer the older code name, is expected to feature a 6.4-inch display with a 90Hz refresh rate. If one could believe the rumours, the OnePlus Z might feature a 6.5-inch FHD+ display with AMOLED panel. Its Resolution is expected to be about 1080 x 2400 pixels, 2a 0:9 ratio (~402 PPI density.
The company is also expected to add support for the 90Hz refresh rate along with an in-screen fingerprint scanner
Storage and Software
This feature might include a 4,300mAh battery and could come with Android 10 with OxygenOS on top.
The Nord is expected to launch with 6GB RAM + 128GB internal storage. The device is also speculated to be available with a separate pack up to 12GB of RAM.
It is assumed that it, like the company’s upcoming Z lineup, will come with support for 5G connectivity.
And though the phone won’t be powered by the same top-of-the-line Snapdragon 865 silicon, as could be found in the OnePlus 8 line, it is expected to have a Snapdragon 765G chipset that includes 5G connectivity.
For its Communication support, it is supposed to support WLAN, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac; Dual-band; Wi-Fi Direct and hotspot. It also supports Bluetooth5.0, A2DP, LE. It will have A-GPS, GLONASS, BDS, NavIC. And its USB is 2.0, Type-C 1.0 with reversible connector, a USB On-The-Go.
Its other rumoured sensors are accelerometer, gyro, proximity, compass.
Battery and Charging in Nord
OnePlus has increased the size of the batteries powering its smartphones as of late, mostly because of the extra power that 5G connectivity requires. Nord could have a 4,000 mAh battery, which while wouldn’t be as big as the 4,300 mAh power pack in the OnePlus 8, would still give enough charge to theoretically get through the day.
Price of OnePlus Nord
When OnePlus first entered the smartphone market, back in 2014, it made a name by building affordable phones with top-of-the-line internal components. Though one had to put up with their lacklustre cameras, OnePlus phones were some of the best value phones one could buy. But that scene started to change slowly, with the new phones the company launched in the market, and it became quite costly as well.
But if rumours and the latest tweets from OnePlus are to be believed, it seems that the company might be back to make affordable phones., especially with the launch of its new lineup.
Now, for how much the phone might cost, a tweet posted by OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei has led people to assume the Nord could fall in the same price range as the OnePlus One. As it is hard to imagine that the company might include features like a 90Hz AMOLED display in a $300 phone, so it might be best to temper expectations.
The handset is rumoured to be priced under Rs. 25,000 price bracket and the rumour suggests that the base model of the OnePlus Z will sport 6GB RAM + 128GB storage and will come with a price tag of Rs 24,000.
t does make sense for the company to cater to the mid-range market especially because nearly all of its recent smartphones touch the premium pricing in India. Started as a company that offered flagship-level features for relatively low pricing, now OnePlus has soared into the segment that is significantly higher than its beginning. It eventually became costly, no longer fitting in the middle-class’s budget. And the absence of OnePlus in lower price range provided a good opportunity to other brands, such as Xiaomi’s Redmi and Realme to turn the consumers towards them.
With all the competitors either already in the market or gearing up, it is a crucial time for OnePlus to make their stand. And it seems to be ready to for that with Nord and others. Hope it will aid the company in its efforts for a new beginning.
