- The Early Days:
Saurabh Tiwary was born on December 30, 1989, in Jamshedpur, Bihar. Like every other kid, he started playing the game for fun. But he took the game very seriously at the age of 11.
Saurabh’s dedication to the game at such an early age resulted into his early debut for Jharkhand at the age of 14. In the coming years, his dedication and sincerity towards the game offered him a place in the Jharkhand’s Ranji squad for the year 2006-07.
- The U-19 World Cup:
Saurabh Tiwary made it to India’s U-19 World Cup squad by making his mark in the Domestic Circuit. He boarded the flight to Malaysia alongside skipper Virat Kohli.
Saurabh’s performances were pretty decent in the world cup whatever it might be batting or the fielding. He played two crucial knocks in the world cup against South Africa and Bangladesh. Raised his bat in these two games so that India could raise its flag high.
Eventually, India brought the cup home and that marked the entry of many players including Saurabh Tiwary at the big stage of IPL.
- The IPL Stint:
The IPL started in the same year in which the U-19 World Cup trophy was brought home. He was picked by Mumbai Indian. Saurabh Tiwary resembled Ms Dhoni in looks and Yuvraj Singh in some strokes. But his first 2 IPL seasons were not so good as he managed to play only 7 games.
Saurabh Tiwary got the spotlight in the third season of IPL(2010) as he scored 419 runs in 16 games he played for the franchise at an average of over 29 and 3 fifties to his name.
After 2010 Season he played for multiple teams including Royal Challengers Bangalore, Delhi Capitals, Rising Pune Supergiants and returned back to MI. In IPL-2017 he played only one game and scored 52 runs.
- The Big International Stage:
Saurabh Tiwary’s decent performances in IPL-2010 made way for his International Debut against Australia as some senior played opted to rest. He did not get many opportunities in the series as it was a short series and with rain looming over every game. He got to bat in just one ODI.
He played a crucial knock of 37* against New Zealand in a game where everyone lost hopes that India could win from here. In that game, Yusuf Pathan scored a brilliant ton and these two did a solid partnership to make it one of the most interesting games of that year.
Interestingly Saurabh smashed the last ball of the match for the six and was dropped for the next series.
- The change of fortunes:
Saurabh Tiwary was unlucky to not get opportunity after the game against New Zealand. Also, his IPL graph declined for the coming years as his franchises were getting changed year after year.
Saurabh Tiwary went unsold for two consecutive IPL seasons, 2018 followed by 2019. But Saurabh Tiwary has continued to play Domestic Cricket for Jharkhand across all three formats constantly.
Even after scoring a fifty in the only game, he played in 2017 he did not get any further chances in the season.
