On Wednesday, 15th July, Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) organized its 43rd Annual General Meeting (AGM).
In this event, that took place virtually for the first time, due to Covid-19 pandemic, Reliance introduced its newest project – the Jio Glass.

Reliance Jio revealed its new invention JioGlass for two main reasons –
- to enhance its existence in virtual space,
- to capitalize on the new distant working culture that is triggered by The COVID-19 pandemic.

Actually, the concept of digital glass for virtual interactions is not new, this idea was launched by Google a few years back.
A few years ago, Google was planning to launch its Google Glass, however, it wasn’t launched.

And as you can easily guess, it became a western hotcake. But now finally, an Indian tech company has made its presence known.

Reliance Jio has commenced its new project the, first virtual reality headset for 3D interactions, Jio Glass at its 43rd AGM.
It is claimed that the Jio Glass is a reply to Snap’s Spectacles 3, launched in early July, but it has comparatively more features.
Case in point, unlike the Snap’s Spectacles 3, Jio Glass centers on providing better video calls facility for remote places.
Jio Glass uses 3D holographic images of participants in a video call in a setup that is driven by mixed reality.
Jio Glass is inaugurated as a next-generation product focused on the advent of the 5G network in India.
At its 43rd AGM, Jio announced its determination to turn India into a truly digital society.
It also confessed that, though such a dream would require an increase in devices and digital infrastructure, it is willing to work for the same.
Jio Glass, the new creation of the Jio group, will be a constructive step to fulfill the company’s agenda to oversee India’s 5G jump.
At AGM, Jio announced that it will start testing a 5G network in India as soon as the auction for the spectrum will happen.
Jio Glass, Jio claimed, will allow people to join video conferences in a more advanced manner by virtually materializing in them.
They can appear holographically or even in a 3D Avatar or 2D version.
However, participants can also join meetings by their usual video feed.
It exhibits a use case for mixed reality, a clear combination of Augmented and Virtual Reality.
It will be tethered through a mobile phone that can be utilized to share records and demonstrations with other participants.
And there will be extra assistance for ongoing presentations, provided by the Jio Glass.
The Jio Glass will come with spatial audio features, so the conferences will have crystal clear audio, without any wired attachments.
This smart glass will assist all audio and video formats and back about 25 video conferencing and collaboration apps.
There are high-resolution frame screens in place of regular lenses.
The Jio Glass can merge real and virtual components to develop an entirely new setting and images.
For this, it has a high-resolution display fit into its glasses to let the user experience this mixture of real and virtual.
By blending both worlds, the Jio Glass is able to easily combine the digital elements with the locality and real-world physics into the show.
The Jio Glass is lightweight with a weight of only 75 grams.
It has the appearance of any normal sunglasses, at first glance, but it is thick in some places to integrate the sensors and necessary hardware.
It will have high-resolution frame screens in the position of regular lenses.
It can essentially pair with any smartphone and amplify the agreeable apps into the new 3D augmented world.
This mixed reality headset will come compatible with 25 mixed reality apps for leisure, education, games, marketing, and others.
The headset has a high-resolution display, and there are vents in the frame for heat dissipation.
The company claimed that users can easily make calls by the Jio Glass through vocal commands like “Hello Jio, please call ABC.”
Jio Glass will be available to both individuals and businesses in India.
Reliance has also stated that the new device is designed for educational purposes as well with teachers and students in mind.
The educators and learners can enable 3D virtual spaces and teach holographic classes through the Mixed Reality service.
At the virtual event, the company did not disclose the price and the marketing details of the product.
Though, they did showcase a demonstration to show how the Jio Glass will work for the public.
