DIXIE CHICKS changes band name to The CHICKS

‘The Dixie Chicks’ has taken the band a long way. The original name ‘The Dixie Chicks’ is based on a 1973 album song ‘Dixie Chicken’ by Little Feat, but with the time they’ve acknowledged that their name has controversial roots. The word “Dixie” has a deep-complicated meaning: “Dixie” is commonly used to refer to the states south of the Mason-Dixon Line, and the song “Dixie” was the Confederacy’s unofficial national anthem.

However, the return of the moment which was started six years ago #BLACK_LIVES_MATTER has covered all the headlines of international media. The fans of the country band felt as the band’s name didn’t align with their efforts in the Black Lives Matter Movement as the word “Dixie”, a nostalgic name for Civil-War era south.

The Lady Antebellum who is an associate to Civil War and an era where Black people were dominated by White people dropped “Antebellum” from their name and now as known as Lady A. Shortly after their announcement ‘The Dixie Chicks” announced the dropped off the word ‘Dixie’ from their name on their website.

However, changing the name was a small step to catch attention towards the hustle of their new music video “March March” which highlights different generations of people marching for civil rights. “If your voice held no power, they wouldn’t try to silence you.” are the opening quotes of the screen. “March March” is being featured in their upcoming Gaslighter.

“Gaslighter” which will come out on 17th July will be the band’s first new album in 14 years— and arguably, more importantly, their first album under a new name, The Chicks.
