England Vs Ireland- The New Beginning

Cricket resumed in colours on 30th July with England and Ireland taking the guard against each in “Cricket World Cup Super League.”

England Vs Ireland first ODI

  • First ODI:

Andy Balbirnie the Ireland skipper asked the hosts the field first after winning the toss in The Rose Bowl, Southampton. Ireland had a very poor start as half of the side was sent back to the dugout for just 28 runs on the board.

Then came Curtis Campher and Andy McBrine to the rescue as they score 59(118) and 40(48) respectively. Willey claimed 5 scalps which bundled up Ireland for 172 inside 45 overs.

In reply when England came to bat they lost their top 3 batsmen for just 59 runs. Sam Billings and Captain Morgan steadily constructed their innings and took the Lions home. England won the first fixture quite comfortably.

England Vs Ireland 2nd ODI

  • Second ODI:

The second ODI of England Vs Ireland was played at the same venue and once again the toss was won by the visitors and they opted to bat first.

Ireland fought better than the first game, 21-year-old Curtis Campher scored his second consecutive fifty in two games. The top order fumbled again but the lower-order once again fought and fought better than the first ODI.

Curtis Campher top-scored for Ireland followed by Simi Singh. Adil Rashid picked 3 quick wickets after a good started which was provided by David Willey and Topley.

When England walked to bat out they lost Jason Roy in the first over but then came the Bairstow storm. Bairstow outplayed every Irish bowler and scored   82 off 41 deliveries before throwing his wicket away to Joshua Little.

But after Bairstow’s departure, things got tricky for  England as they Captain Morgan and Moeen Ali in the same over.  The match got intense but then came the start of the first match David Willey who scored 47* off 46. Willey and Billing took the lead to 2-0.

England VS Ireland 3rd ODI

  • Third ODI:

The last ODI of England VS Ireland series was played at the same venue as the first two. But this time after winning the toss Ireland opted to field first. England came out to bat on a bright sunny day.

England lost the top-ever in the matter of 44 runs but then came the skipper to bat. Eoin  Morgan scored a brilliant ton and ended up scoring 106 which included 4 massive sixes. Also, Tom Banton supported the skipper with a quick fifty.

David Willey contributed with the bat for the second consecutive time with the bat in England vs Ireland series. England ended on 328/10 in 49.5 overs.

When Ireland openers came out to bat they played more maturely For the first time the openers had a partnership of 50.

After a fine start, Paul Stirling converted it into a big one and scored 142 before getting run-out on 142. Also, the skipper stepped ahead and scored brilliant 113 off 112 balls. Ireland ended series with a scoreline of 2-1.

  • Cricket World Cup Super League:

England VS Ireland series marked the start of Cricket World Cup Super League. The league is scheduled to take place from July 2020 to March 2022 and serves as part of the 2023 Cricket World Cup Qualification process.

The Super League will comprise of 3 matches bilateral series. If a series consists of 5 matches then only the points of first 3 matches will be taken into the consideration for Qualification.

It features thirteen teams, the twelve Full members of the International Cricket Council (ICC), and the Netherlands, who won the 2015–17 ICC World Cricket League Championship to qualify for this competition.

Each team will play an ODI series against eight of the twelve opponents, four series at home and four away. Each series consists of three ODIs.
