Google Pixel 4a is an impending smartphone by tech-giant Google. Commencing in 2016 with the launch of the original Pixel, this lineup of Android phones has been marketed towards people who are looking to buy premium, high-end flagships. That notion has continued, but in May 2019, Google chose to try something different with the release of the Pixel 3a.
The users were smitten with the Pixel 3a, and now, once again, the rumour mill is buzzing with information regarding its successor Google Pixel 4a.
So here we are to quench your curiosity.
Launch Dates
As it’s predecessor, Pixel 3a was announced and made available for purchase all in one day, during the opening keynote for Google I/O on May 7, 2019, people were expecting it to follow that same formula and be announced at I/O 2020, but that didn’t happen sadly.
Instead on March 20, Google announced that it has cancelled the awaited conference and launch in an attempt to further slow the spread of the ongoing global health crisis.
So now, a typical launch event is literally out of the question, and along with that, be assured to wait a lot longer than was originally expected to get the phone.
Since then, there have been numerous statements and rumours trying to pin down the Pixel 4a’s release. It was first said that the phone would be launched on May 22 and then it shifted and the date was delayed until some point in June, and then signs were pointing to an August release as well.
As of now, it’s being publicized that the Pixel 4a will be launched on July 13, but the phone won’t be for sale until October 22.
Expected Design and Outlook
December 28 was the day when 91Mobiles and @OnLeaks shared the first renders of the Pixel 4a. As they are usually right when it comes to these sorts of things, so the renders here are more than likely the first look of 4a.
The design of the Pixel 4a seems pretty interesting, as it happens to incorporate things users have and haven’t seen in past Pixel editions.
To start with the familiar aspects, the 4a’s backside looks very similar to that of the flagship Pixel 4. It shows a square rear camera housing. It has a matte white finish with an orange-coloured power button and the “G” logo of Google towards the bottom. Unlike ititsredecessor Pixel 4, however, it also has a traditional fingerprint sensor positioned below the camera bump. This handset also opts for a unibody design, while the Pixel 4 had a stark black frame in contrast with its glass back.
The other changes could be seen at the front of the phone. Assuming these renders to be accurate, Pixel 4a will be the first Pixel handset to have a hole-punch cutout for its front-facing camera.
Its bottom frame is housing the Pixel 4a’s USB-C charging port and speaker grilles, with the top frame being where one can find the 3.5mm headphone jack.
Expected Features of Google Pixel 4a
1. This phone is expected to come with a 5.81-inch touchscreen display with a resolution of about 1080×2340 pixels at a pixel density of 443 pixels per inch (PPI).
2. Google Pixel 4a comes is also rumoured to come with 6GB of RAM and is expected to be powered by a 3080mAh non-removable battery. The Google Pixel 4a supports proprietary fast charging.
3. As far as the cameras are concerned, as that is one of the most attractive features to many, the Google Pixel 4a is rumoured to pack a 12.2-megapixel camera. It is also expected to exhibit an 8-megapixel camera on the front for selfies.
4. Google Pixel 4a runs on Android 10 and also packs 64GB of inbuilt storage and it is expected to be powered by a 3080mAh non-removable battery. The Google Pixel 4a is expected to support fast charging.
5. The Connectivity options present in the Google Pixel 4a includes Wi-Fi, GPS, and USB Type-C. While the Sensors are rumoured to include accelerometer, compass/ magnetometer, proximity sensor, and fingerprint sensor
6. With supportive evidence that eludes the Snapdragon 730 will power the Pixel 4a, it’s increasingly unlikely that Google’s next budget phone will be able to connect to emerging 5G networks.
Though if Google surprisingly uses Snapdragon 765 chipset, it might be possible. Since the 765 chipset features a built-in 5G modem, so any phone powered by that system-on-chip will have 5G connectivity.

Expected Price
Budget is one thing every seller has to keep in mind while planning a new launch. Big players are no exception to this rule either. The biggest lure of Pixel 3a was its low price. The phone made its debut with a retail price of just $399, while the Pixel 3a XL was launched at a cost just a little more at $479.
As the Marketing materials for the Pixel 4a were leaked in March, it revealed that the phone will be “starting at $399,”. It suggested that this would be the price for the 64GB model while the 128GB one would cost $449.
9to5Google‘s Stephen Hall reported, however, that the 128GB Pixel 4a will cost just $349. If it is true, that would mean the 64GB Pixel 4a could cost as little as $299.
The product listings from French retailers also revealed pricing information. They showed different prices, with one listing the Pixel 4a for €509.56 while the other has it for €441.65.
So, it is quite difficult to say what the pricing will ultimately look like, but if Google can hit those $299 and $349 targets, it might give a serious competition to the popular iPhone SE.
The Pixel 4a might not be revolutionary, especially if Google decided to plays it safe. Just a solid update on the Pixel 3 is needed for its next foray into the mid-range handset market and it will no doubt do very well once again.
