For the Bike lovers, it’s like Christmas. After keeping suspense for the last three months, Hero MotoCorp has finally launched the Hero Xtreme 160R.

It was first unveiled at the Hero World 2020 event, hosted at the Centre of Innovation and Technology (CIT) in Jaipur last February. The bike is inspired by the bold 1.R concept showcased at the EICMA 2019.

This new masterpiece of Hero Motocorp offers an unparalleled mix of performance, sportiness, and features. It boasts of a muscular stance with an optimum mix of comfort and control.

Here’s everything one would like to know about the Xtreme 160R.

  1. The idea of reality:

The Hero Motocorp showcased the Xtreme 160R in concept form at EICMA 2019. The unveiled concept motorcycle, which was then called the Xtreme 1.R, had quite a few interesting features. A few design elements even made it similar to the production-spec Xtreme 160R.

2. More Better features than the Xtreme 200R:

The Hero Xtreme 160R not only has a new bodywork but also has features missing from even its larger sibling, the Xtreme 200R. To begin with, it gets an LED headlamp, LED tail lamp, and LED turn indicators, while Xtreme 200R just has an LED tail lamp.

Furthermore, if compared to the Xtreme 200R’s semi-digital instrument console, the Xtreme 160R gets a full-digital display. It even has hazard lamps and Auto Sail technology; features the Xtreme 200R is expected to get in its BS6 avatar.

3. Quickest bike in its 160cc segment

Like the showcased concept motorcycle, the Xtreme 160R gets an air-cooled 160cc motor. This BS6-compliant fuel-injected motor is capable of making 15.2PS at 8500rpm and 14Nm at 6500rpm.

Hero MotoCorp has claimed that the Xtreme 160R will accelerate from 0-60kmph in 4.7 seconds and so, will be the quickest bike in the 160cc segment.

It is equipped with, what Hero calls, Auto Sail technology. This technology prevents engine stalling and allows for a smooth getaway.

4. Newer underpinnings:

Hero Xtreme 160R does not have its frame similar to Xtreme 200R. It is using a new diamond-type single downtube frame with the engine as a stressed member.

Its suspension setup comprises 37mm forks and a 7-step adjustable mono-shock, along with it the Xtreme 160R gets petal-type discs at both ends with a single-channel ABS as standard.

Hero Xtreme 160R vs Suzuki Gixxer BS6 vs TVS Apache RTR 160 4V BS6: Ways of Comparison

Hero Xtreme 160r

Hero MotorCorp designed Xtreme 160R with an objective to re-enter the hot 160cc – 200cc motorcycle segment in India. The newly launched motorcycle gets a host of features along with a strong engine.

The bike lovers are pitting the Hero Xtreme 160R against two of the best motorcycles in the 160 cc segment namely the TVS Apache RTR 160 4V and Suzuki Gixxer

1. Dimensions

If we talk in terms of dimensions, the Hero Xtreme 160R is the handiest as well as the most accessible motorcycle of the lot. It also possesses a unique weight advantage over its competitors as it is the lightest.

The TVS Apache RTR 160 4V has an impressive ground clearance of 180mm, which makes it suitable to handle broken roads and tall speed breakers.

2. Pricing

Hero MotorCorp usually prices its products to undercut its competitors by a considerable margin. The same trend was expected to continue with Hero Xtreme 160R which is to launch at the price of Rs 99,950, which is the price for its rear drum version while the rear disc variant costs Rs 1,03,500.

At this price range, it can effectively undercut the Apache RTR 160 4V by nearly Rs 14,000 – Rs 15,000 as the TVS Apache is priced between Rs 1.03 lakhs – Rs 1.06 lakhs (ex-showroom).

The Suzuki Gixxer, on the other hand,  comes at a price of Rs 1.12 lakh (ex-showroom) which is quite a premium price.

 3. Other Features-

All these three motorcycles come furnished with an LED headlamp and tail light. Though, Hero Xtreme 160R has LED turn indicators as well, which makes it the only motorcycle to get all-LED lighting.

All three have digital display units. The Xtreme 160 R is using a negative-display unit, while they’re on the Gixxer is a console and the Apache RTR 160 4V has a traditional black text on a white background.

While all three motorcycles have a similar suspension setup which consists of telescopic forks and a mono-shock, the Apache RTR 160 4V BS6 gets special tuning from its KYB (forks) and Showa ( mono-shock).

All three offer a full-digital instrument console though it is the Gixxer BS6 that has the most premium looking and comprehensive setup of the lot. It is also the only motorcycle here to get a split seat setup.

4. Brakes

The Hero Xtreme 160R has the largest front disc brakes for better performance. As for Apache RTR 160 4V, its brake feedback is, unfortunately, poor while the Suzuki Gixxer’s suspension units are well set up for a firm ride.

The Xtreme also comes laced with a side-stand engine cut off and hazard lights, but the Apache is the one that stands out here as it features the Glide Through Technology (GTT), which allows much easier slow-speed riding, moving the motorcycle forward by just releasing the clutch and without throttle operation.
