Vidit Gujrathi the Grandmaster who attracted the eyes of people to the game of minds called “Chess”

India is a country which loves sports. Every single home has a fan, either of Sachin or of Messi. But recently a game has caught everyone’s eyes which is being promoted by a lot of People via Youtube and other platforms.

Vidit Gujrathi has played a prominent part in growing the game of chess all over the globe. Vidit is India’s Grandmaster who’s rank is no.2

Vidit Gujarthi

Vidit Santosh Gujrathi was born on 24 October 1994 in Indore. Vidit did his schooling from Fravashi academy. Vidit had an interest in chess since a very early age just like Magnus Carlsen. During the year 2006, he played in  Asian Youth Championships in the U12 category and ended up at the second position which earned him the title of FIDE Master.

Gujrathi accomplished the title of International Master when he made secured 7 points up of 13 in the Velammal 45th National A Chess Championship in Chennai in 2008.

To confirm himself as International Master he scored 9 points out of 11 possible points. In the same year, he participated in the World Youth Chess Championship and become first India to win the title on U-14 Open Section.

A year later Vidit Gujarathi featured in U-16 category of World Youth Chess Championship in 2009 and his finished at the second position as the game ended in a draw with S.P. Sethuraman.

To gain his first Grandmaster norm it took him 2 years. In 2011 at World Junior Chess Championship in Chennai Vidit Gujarathi finished with 8 points out of 11 and gained his first Grandmaster norm.

In 2012 at Nagpur International open Vidit gained his second Grandmaster norm with 8 points.

Vidit Gujrathi gained his final Grandmaster norm in the same year at Kolkata Open Grandmasters’ tournament.  Vidit ranked second in Grandmasters list of India.

In the year 2019, he participated in Tata Steel Rapid Blitz as a wildcard contestant and the final ended in a draw with Pentala Harikrishna.

In 2020 everyone was surprised when Vidit was elected as the captain of Indian Team for FIDE Online Chess Olympiad.

Vidit Gujrathi did not disappoint the spectators as they managed to find their game after a loss in the initial game. India drew final with Russia to be the joint winners of the tournament.

Vidit has a FIDE Rating of 2726  which is his best rating till date.

Some other information about the Grandmaster Vidit Gujrathi:

1. He is the youngest India to Cross Elo rating of 2700. He achieved this feat before the age of 23 at Spanish League.

2.  In the year 2018, he was elected as brand ambassador for All India Chess Federation for Blind.

3. He loves trekking, adventures and animals.

4. Vidit has gained popularity over social media as well. He has more than 90K subscribers on Youtube.

5. He makes chess look so simple to normal people. During his Youtube Streams, he wins one game after the other in really a very short period of time.

Vidit is a fantastic personality and a role model for many young chess players in India. Vidit is working really hard in chess and is also helping the game to grow in India via his streams where he teaches people how to improve in chess.
