Introduction to Artificial Intelligence-
Artificial intelligence or AI, no matter how artificial it seems, is still the mould for shaping the future.
Simply put, AI is nothing but the showcase of intelligence but artificially, and here, artificial is meant by the use of machines and robots of the advanced level. That according to me is the simplest definition of this very concept.
We are known by the name of Homo sapiens which is the scientific term for humans or the wise man. We care about our wisdom as it is meant for us to explore and to understand something more complicated than the whole world itself. By the means of artificial intelligence, we not only understand this wisdom but also build it for our benefit.
Such kind of abilities is available to us by the blessed use of a concept which is a complete science in itself, computer science.

AI has already encompassed in various fields and has performed some day to day tasks such as, such as playing chess, proving mathematical theorems, writing poetry, driving a car on a crowded street, and diagnosing diseases. Intelligence is the basic requirement of any field and AI is just completing the absence of that very element.
There are four approaches to this very concept which, historically, have been followed by human intervention. The four approaches are known as, thought process and reasonings, behaviour, human performance, and rationality.
In accordance to some experts, there is a test known as the Turing test. In this test, there is the presence of a human interrogator. A particular machine designed for AI purpose passes the test if the human interrogator, after
posing some written questions, cannot tell whether the written responses come from a person or a computer.
The requirements in the machine for clearing this very test is the presence of computer vision for perceiving objects, and robotics to manipulate objects and move them around.
For a machine to be enabled of Artificial intelligence, there is a list of some capabilities that need to be present in the machine. They are stated as follows-
- Processing of natural language- This needs to be present as there would be a need to communicate successfully in English.
- Representation of knowledge- This very ability helps the machine to store what it hears or know
- Automated reasoning- It is used to use the very stored information to answer questions and to draw new conclusions.
- Machine Learning- This concept is used to simply adapt to new circumstances and to detect and extrapolate patterns.
The quest for “artificial flight” succeeded when the Wright brothers and others stopped imitating birds and started using wind tunnels and learning about aerodynamics. Aeronautical engineering texts do not define the goal of their field as making “machines that fly so exactly like pigeons that they can fool even other pigeons.
Cognitive Science-
It is no rocket science, but to make the computer or any other machine think like us, we must first know as to how do humans think. For our convenience, such a job is done by studying the stuff by cognitive science.
Following such science, to know as to how we humans think, there are three ways to do so, those being-
- Via Introspection– which is trying to catch our thoughts as they go by (bit tough!)
- Via psychological experiments– which is simply observing a person in action
- Brain imaging– that is observing the brain in action.
Once there is a presence of sufficiently precise theory of the mind, it becomes possible to express the theory as a computer program.
To formulate the philosophy of this concept of Artificial Intelligence, some basic questions were answered, which caused the basic foundation of AI to be formulated-
- Can formal rules be used to draw valid conclusions
- How does the mind arise from a physical brain?
- Where does knowledge come from?
- How does knowledge lead to action?
Artificial intelligence-The Coin:-
I wholeheartedly present to you the very concept of AI in the form of coin, i.e. presenting the pros and cons of Artificial intelligence.
Pros of Artificial Intelligence-
Here are some of the many advantages of AI-
- Human error is reduced as the work involves the efficiency displayed by a machine
- Risks are reduced to a machine and precious human life is saved, for example, the intervention of a robot in any natural disaster’s precaution and preparing
- Aid is available 24×7
- Automated help in day to day repetitive jobs
- The assistance of the digital kind is available
- Decisions are made faster than humans
- Helps in improvising new inventions
Cons of Artificial Intelligence-
Here comes the dark side-
- The cost of creation is way too high
- Turns humans into lazy bones (knew it!)
- Replacement of AI causes a reduction in employment
- Emotionless working (It’s a machine after all!)
- No space for out of the box thinking
Applications of AI-
Here I present to you the uses of this concept in a little brief manner-
Whether it is agriculture or banking, AI has dominated almost every industrially important sector of the economy.
- AI for Good is an ITU initiative supporting institutions employing AI to tackle some of the world’s greatest economic and social challenges.
- In agriculture, new AI advancements show improvements in gaining yield and to increase the research and development of growing crops.
- In the field of Aviation, the AOD or the Air Operations Divisions uses AI for the rule-based expert system
- Being the part of computer science, AI has certainly deepened its roots in this science. AI can be used to potentially determine the developer of anonymous binaries
- In terms of imparting education, AI tutors could allow for students to get extra, one-on-one help.
- In finance, AI finds its use in the areas of Algorithmic training, Market analysis and Data mining, Personal Finance, Portfolio Management, and Underwriting.
- Apart from these important areas, AI also finds its application in Music, Military, e-commerce, and media
That’s all folks!
I hope you find this nugget of knowledge quite interesting and useful. And if you ask me, then AI is the new cool!
