Jio Phone 3: What we know about Google – Jio partnered affordable phone

 

Jio Phone 3 will supposedly be the cheapest 5G phone in the world. Google has recently partnered with Reliance Jio in the manufacturing of the next Jio phone. Initially, it is being called as Jio phone 3. The name and other crucial information are not yet officially out.

There are many false news articles and fake videos everywhere on the internet regarding the specifications, launch, and booking of the phone.

What do we know about Jio phone 3?

Launch: The launch is expected in early 2021, along with the launch of the Jio 5G network. The official dates are not out.

Partners: Jio phone 3 is being built by Google and Reliance Jio. Google invested Rs 33,737 crore for a 7.7 percent stake in Jio platforms.

Hardware: The body of the phone is being manufactured by Reliance Jio under “Make in India”.

Network: Initially, Jio phone 3 will get launched with the 4G network and later on with 5G network. Jio has developed its own indigenous 5G solution.

Chipset: The chipset of Jio phone 3 will come with an integrated 5G modem. It will be cheaper than its current most affordable 5G chipset- the Snapdragon 765G 5G. The 5G chipset is being created by both Google and Reliance.

Operating System: Jio phone 3 is the entry-level phone in 5G tech. So, they will use a lighter version of Google Android OS for effective compatibility.

Price: The cost of the new Jio phone 3 will be very affordable, believed to be under Rs. 10,000. The 10k category sells around 60 million smartphones per year. The price of the Jio Phone 1 is Rs. 1500 and Jio Phone 2 is Rs. 3000.

Investors

Reliance Jio Platforms, a four-year-old venture of Reliance Industries, has raised over 15.7 billion USD since April 2020 from 13 prominent investors around the world.

Other investors in Jio ventures include Facebook, Silverlake, Vista Equity Partners, General Atlantic, KKR, Mubadala, PIF, Abu Dhabi Investment Authority (ADIA), TPG, L Catterton, and Qualcomm.

Google initially announced to invest 10 Billion USD in India over the next decade under its “Google for India Digitization Fund” through equity investments, partnerships, and ecosystem, operational, and infrastructure investments.
