On Saturday, 29 August news spread in the cricket world that Mr IPL “Suresh Raina” has withdrawn his name from the thirteenth edition of IPL which will get kick-started from 19 September 2020.
The speculations were made that the player was scared due to the increase in COVID cases within the team and decided to leave for home but by the evening the sad news of his uncle’s demise came out.
But on 30 August the sources said that the star player wasn’t happy with the hotel room he was provided. Suresh Raina also wanted himself to accommodate in a room similar to MS Dhoni’s which had a wonderful balcony to see the mesmerizing views of Dubai.
Here are 5 possible players who can try to fill the void of Mr IPL:
1. Manoj Tiwary:
Manoj Tiwary is one of those players who shinned a lot early on in their IPL career but later slowly faded away. However, Manoj Tiwary has gained form in recent times. He scored a triple hundred for Bengal in Ranji Trophy 2018.
Adding to his brilliant domestic performances in 2018 the veteran has also played close to 100 IPL games for franchises like Kolkata Knight Riders, Capital Capitals, Rising Pune Supergiants and Kings XI Punjab which was his last franchises in 2018.
Manoj Tiwary hasn’t got a bid in IPL for the last two seasons. CSK might opt for him as he can bowl some leg breaks as well in the middle overs and it would be like for like replacement.
2. Akshdeep Nath:
Akshdeep Nath hails from the same state as Suresh Raina and has similar batting attributes. Akshdeep Nath has played only 14 games thus far after making the debut in 2016 for Gujarat Lions under Suresh Raina’s captaincy.
He was a part of Virat Kohli led Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2019 but mostly batted lower down the order and could not make his mark in the team.
However, he can be very destructive at the top and CSK might consider him as the replacement.
3. Yusuf Pathan:
Yusuf is one of those players who have been a consistent part of the IPL right from season one. Yusuf Pathan had played for Rajasthan Royals, Kolkata Knight Riders and recently Sunrisers Hyderabad.
However, Yusuf did not find any bidder for him in the 2020 auction, CSK can include him as he has vast experience of 174 IPL games which includes 13 fifties and a ton to his name. He also has very decent strike-rate of over 140 in IPL with 42 wickets to his name.
CSK can ask him to join the team as he attracts the eyes with quick play.
4. Hanuma Vihari:
Hanuma Vihari might surprise a few eyes but he can be the one who perfectly fits in the CSK lineup especially if the wicket falls early and someone has to consolidate the innings till the end.
Hanuma Vihari made his IPL debut in 2013 for SRH. However, he was apart of Delhi Capitals for 2019 edition. He managed to play only two games for Delhi Capitals as the team had many power hitters in the top order and he mostly found himself in the lower order.
He can replace Suresh Raina as he has shown his temperament in the test cricket for India. He can be a fair choice for the IPL 2020.
5. Ruturaj Gaikwad:
Ruturaj Gaikwad is one of the top promising emerging youngsters in the Indian Domestic setup. He is technically strong and has a good temperament for batting at the top.
the 22-year young lad is yet to get his maiden debut IPL cap he has been a part of CSK Team for quite long now.
Suresh Raina’s exit can lend him the opportunity to represent the franchises in the IPL 2020. He can bat the top has got all kinds of shots to offer.
CSK might not consider any replacement and might hand him the responsibility to bat at no. 3 for the team.
