Maruti Suzuki ’s First Electric Car is Under Development!

 

 

 

 

 

It has been confirmed by RC Bhargava, Chairman of Maruti Suzuki India Limited that the commercial launch of the First Maruti Suzuki Electric Car will take place in 2021.

Earlier, it was expected to hit roads by the end of 2020. The reasons cited for the delay are the underdeveloped infrastructure and governmental policies for the electric four-wheelers. Though it has been alleged that the Research and Development (R&D) work and trail runs are going as per the company’s plan.

The news of Maruti Suzuki Electric was first announced at the MOVE Summit in 2018. It is based on the third-generation WagonR Hatchback. The prototype vehicles have been under trial for different climate and terrain conditions.

Expected Features of Maruti Suzuki’s new car –

1. The exterior of the Maruti Suzuki Wagon R EV is expected to sport newly designed projector headlamps and a new multi-information instrument cluster where the status of the battery, as well as distance covered, can be monitored.

Also, there might be a new radiator grille that would be supported by clean lens tail lamps and chrome surrounds.

2. The spy pictures have revealed that the Maruti Wagon R Electric will have a new split headlamp format with the LED DRLs, daytime running lights. The front grille might be different from the regular model. The fog lamps will be situated down the front bumper.

3. Its 15-inch black wheels are likely to be similar to the Ignis and the vertically-stacked tail lamps will be sourced from the standard WagonR. The side and rear design will be exactly similar to its fuel counterpart.

4. Electric Care will use Suzuki’s Heartect platform. Dimensions might also remain unchanged.

5. The Interior will also remain more or less similar to its donor sibling. It will have a large central digital display, dashboard integrated AC vents, a touchscreen infotainment system with smartphone connectivity, power windows, and also a multi-functional steering wheel.

6. Moving towards the safety precautions, the first Maruti Suzuki Electric Car is likely to offer Driver’s Side Airbag, which might be optional for the passenger side, Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brake Distribution (EBD), Rear Parking Sensors, Seat Belt Reminder, Speed Alert System, etc.

7. Although, official specifications are yet to be revealed by Maruti Suzuki India. However, the Maruti WagonR Electric is expected to come with both standard and fast charging capabilities.

Its battery pack will predictably take seven to eight hours to get fully charged via a regular power socket and an hour, up to 80%, via a fast charger.

8. Body-colored bumpers and chic contours will adorn the bonnet of this car. Now for the side profile – there will be ORVNs in the body color and fender side indicators along with B-pillar blackout and first-hand alloy wheels.

And as far as the rear end is concerned, you could be sure to get clean lens tail lamps, tailgate, chrome badging, and roof-mounted antenna to ensure that the vehicle stands apart among its counterparts.

9. Furthermore, the Maruti Suzuki Wagon R EV, powered by an electric motor, will come with a power of 50 kW.  The final torque and power will be made certain at the time of its launch.

However, it is expected that automatic transmission would be applied for smooth variation and transmission of torque and power on varied road conditions.

10.  The distance that one can cover by Maruti Suzuki Wagon R Electric version is predicted to be 90 km per full charge. However, the overall distance coverage would be dependent on the curb weight, changing system, and, unquestionably, on battery maintenance.

Thus, roughly, a mileage of 60 to 80 km per full charge can be expected from this vehicle.

Launch Date and Price

With all the above-mentioned features, one must be curious about its expected price and date of arrival in the market. Unfortunately, the launch dates are still to be announced. However, the prices of the new electric car are assessed to start approximately Rs 12 lakh.

Finally, this car will have highly upgraded features and better-quality dynamics, including better space capacity, premium entertainment features, and enhanced comfort. All of these make it a worthy selection for every potential buyer.
